Companion book to Responsibly Driven, sharing real stories of impaired driving and its consequences.
IMPACT: Insights, Effects and the Reality of Impaired Driving is the companion book to Responsibly Driven. It collects testimonies from family members, first responders, ride‑share drivers, and impaired‑driving offenders, revealing the real human cost of impaired driving and the distorted thinking that must change. IMPACT turns lived experience into a tool for intentional reflection, existential accountability, and prevention, inviting readers to confront how their choices affect others and to imagine a more responsible way forward.
Ready to use IMPACT in your program, group, or personal reflection?
The purpose of IMPACT is to bridge impaired‑driving offenders with the wider community—victims, families, and professionals—and to spark honest dialogue for effective impaired driving prevention. It is a tool for deep reflection, accountability, and community education, helping people see the lived reality behind impaired driving and reconsider the way they think, choose, and drive.
IMPACT is used alongside Responsibly Driven as reading assignments and discussion prompts in RD groups and workshops. It brings the voices of people harmed and people who offended into the room, creating a lived‑experience context for reflection, accountability, and change. In workshops and community events focused on impaired driving awareness and prevention, IMPACT helps participants move beyond abstract ideas into real stories that call for intentional, responsible choices.
IMPACT is available through Fistula Publishing and major online booksellers.
Christopher Jon Martinez was part of the first cohort of Responsibly Driven participants and was instrumental in the creation of IMPACT: Insights, Effects and the Reality of Impaired Driving. The original vision for IMPACT began with him, and his work gathering testimonies and helping move the project toward publication made a lasting contribution to its development.
Christopher did more than help create a book—he embodied the teachings of Responsibly Driven. In his own life, he showed that confronting denial, acknowledging harm, and pursuing spiritual and personal growth can lead to genuine transformation and a more intentional, responsible way of being. Christopher is remembered with deep gratitude for the role he played in turning lived experience into a tool for reflection, accountability, and prevention. His contribution remains part of IMPACT, and we honor his memory by continuing the work this project was created to do: helping people transform how they think, choose, and take responsibility for their impact.
