Responsibly Driven Curriculum
An impaired driving prevention curriculum for courts, programs, and communities committed to real change.
An impaired driving prevention curriculum for courts, programs, and communities committed to real change.
Responsibly Driven: An Impaired Driving Prevention Curriculum helps participants examine their relationship with alcohol and other drugs, confront denial about their substance use and driving, sharpen personal awareness and intentional thinking, and develop insight into safer, more responsible decisions behind the wheel.
The Responsibly Driven and IMPACT books provide structured material for personal reflection, facilitated groups, treatment settings, and impaired-driving prevention work.
Responsibly Driven groups give participants a structured process for examining their lives and planning change. Participants work on:
Understanding their relationship with alcohol, other drugs, and driving—including how denial has shaped their choices and how those choices affect others.
Sharpening personal awareness, intentional thinking, and the capacity to pause before acting.
Developing insight into more effective, responsible decision‑making.
Uncovering and addressing denial, underlying issues, and distorted thinking tied to substance use and impaired driving.
Clarifying values and casting a vision for a safer, more intentional way of living.
Using the CS3 Sobriety Plan (Clean, Sober, Safe, Sustainable) to turn insight into concrete commitments, daily practices, and accountable follow‑through.
The CS3 (Clean, Sober, Safe, Sustainable) Sobriety Plan is a central component of Responsibly Driven. It helps participants move from insight into action by naming their problem (“My problem is…”), identifying the denial, underlying issues, and distorted beliefs that led to impaired driving, and designing clean, sober, safe, and sustainable plans they can actually live out. Participants also describe how their CS3 Plan meets each part of CS3 and update it as their recovery, responsibilities, and circumstances change.
Responsibly Driven is designed for impaired drivers and impaired‑driving offenders, and for programs and communities that want participants to move beyond compliance into honest self‑examination, intentional change, and accountability. It serves:
Impaired driving education classes and court‑ordered impaired driving programs.
Correctional and reentry programs in jails and prisons.
Substance use treatment programs with driving‑related populations.
Probation departments and impaired driving treatment courts.
Community organizations focused on impaired driving prevention and road safety.
The Responsibly Driven curriculum is published as a structured program book and can be facilitated in group sessions or adapted for one‑to‑one work. Agencies can integrate it with existing impaired driving or treatment programming and pair it with IMPACT: Insights, Effects and the Reality of Impaired Driving to bring in testimonial and community perspectives.
The curriculum package includes:
The Responsibly Driven participant book, built around lived experience and structured reflection.
CS3 Sobriety Plan worksheets and prompts to help participants design clean, sober, safe, and sustainable lives.
A Facilitator’s Guide with a consistent lesson format (check‑ins, quotes, key concepts, exercises, discussion, landing points, assignments) and guidance on “way of being,” listening, and feedback.
Optional integration of IMPACT readings to deepen reflection on the real‑world effects of impaired driving.
